President Bush has been on a mission to re-write history. This Bush was very proud to claim the highest home ownership.
” The goal is, everybody who wants to own a home has got a shot at doing so. The problem is we have what we call a homeownership gap in America. Three-quarters of Anglos own their homes, and yet less than 50 percent of African Americans and Hispanics own homes. That ownership gap signals that something might be wrong in the land of plenty. And we need to do something about it.
We are here in Washington, D.C. to address problems. So I’ve set this goal for the country. We want 5.5 million more homeowners by 2010 — million more minority homeowners by 2010. (Applause.) Five-and-a-half million families by 2010 will own a home. That is our goal. It is a realistic goal. But it’s going to mean we’re going to have to work hard to achieve the goal, all of us. And by all of us, I mean not only the federal government, but the private sector, as well. “
More Americans than ever own their own homes, but we must continue to work hard so that every family has an opportunity to realize the American Dream. In 2002, I announced a goal to add 5.5 million new minority homeowners by the end of the decade. Since then, we have added 2.3 million new minority households. My Administration has also set a goal of adding 7 million new affordable homes to the market within the next 10 years. In my FY 2006 budget, I proposed a single family housing tax credit and two mortgage programs — the Zero Downpayment mortgage and the Payment Incentives program — to help more families achieve homeownership. In 2003, I signed the American Dream Downpayment Act, and I have proposed more than $200 million to continue the American Dream Downpayment Initiative to provide downpayment assistance to thousands of American families. By promoting initiatives such as financial literacy, tax incentives for building affordable homes, voucher programs, and Individual Development Accounts, we are strengthening our communities and improving citizens’ lives.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, GEORGE W. BUSH, President of the United States of America, by virtue of the authority vested in me by the Constitution and laws of the United States, do hereby proclaim June 2005 as National Homeownership Month. I call upon the people of the United States to observe this month with appropriate ceremonies and activities recognizing the importance of homeownership.
bush and his administration DID disregard signs of danger from Government Sponsored Enterprises, so it’s hardly a “hit piece” since it tells the truth.
Yes, I believe it. When will more people get their heads out of the sand, and open their eyes? This guy is poison, and has been for 8 long painful years.
Yes, of course some believed. These people are known as the Obama-bots (aka Clintonistas) lol Btw, I didn’t see the NY SLimes article, that section of the paper was probably used to line the bottom of the birdcage.
ny times is on the verge of bankruptcy, they are pandering to the lib wackos trying to increase circulation.too late, they are fkng doomed….
Yes.
No matter how valid your argument, it will never be as powerful as short mindless quips such as:
“Bush is an idiot”
“Bush lied, people died”
“McChimpy”
Just warning you. Its easier, (and more fashionable) for people to just demonize Bush.
ok i agree bush is a terrible financial manager
Of course Bush’s whitehouse.gov will make a rebuttal.
But we’ve already established that we can’t trust Bush.
Likely….the same pitiful, moronic, gullible, ones that elected the new messiah…….
Another Liberal at their best.

No reasonable person believes the new york times anymore

well… the truth is probably somewhere in between…
I’m sure you’ve seen that youtube video that says how it’s ALL THE DEMOCRATS fault… and how all the Republicans believe it…
truth is… there’s plenty of blame to go around…
and to just say that Republicans wanted all this regulation… when they constantly talk about deregulation… is “iffy” at best…
in fact, Bush’s actions to stop the mortgage debacle seem to be much like Clinton’s actions to stop bin Laden… a lot of talk… but little action…
