For the House of Representatives…no. Sometimes, it takes so long to build up your influence there that no Federal Aid would ever actually be designated to the Representative’s district. It would be too controlled by the State Government, and at least where New York State is concerned (I am a resident) they don’t need any more paralysis.
For the Senate, I say repeal the 17th Amendment (allowing for direct election of Senators). That gives power BACK to the States, because now those “influence peddlers” have to deal with the state Government more often, not the Federal.
You are so right. It doesn’t matter what party they are affliated with. I have read were lobbyists are out there paying off both parties to get what they want. We need to stop the career politicians. Barney Frank, Chris Dodd, Kennedy, Kerry, Pelosi, Reid, Murtha just to name a few. They have no idea what it is like to work in the real world. They need a reality check.
Our elected officials are supposed to represent us but they only represent the people who are paying them off.
Absolutely. That “sphere of influence” is EXACTLY what we should want to avoid. If no one had that “good old boys” influence, then everyone would be on equal footing. And why should the most power NOT be with the states? The purpose of the federal government is NOT to govern us, but to deal with foreign countries, conduct trade with other nations, and support and supply a standing army FOR OUR DEFENSE. That is all a national government should do. Things that govern our daily lives should be decided by us, on a state to state basis.
So, yes….it should be twice around the dance floor, and then you go home.
yes, and it must start with the education of one person at a time…we must have all our facts and ducks in a row and present fact vs vitriol. the average voter spends less than 1% of their time getting information and learning about their government. most people are hungry and only need the basics to get started. as the concerned ones that want change, we have a tough road ahead, but persistence will prevail as long as we keep our facts straight…
Looks like everyone wants term limits, regardless!
New Hampshire has rolled out a TERM LIMITS Initiative nation-wide. All 50 states have been contacted and thousands of FREE emails have been sent in a little over 1 week. The initiative is called “National RE-BOOT CONGRESS Initiative”.
A congressional web page has been set up with some boiler-plate text that can be edited by you to send your emails to your representatives based on you zip code. You can FULLY EDIT your comments to be specific to your concerns or you can use the boiler plate text, provided by New Hampshire.
Some folks ask WHAT IF one of my reps is complying by the constitution but others aren’t? Change the boiler plate text to say that and be specific about those who are not complying. PUT THEM ON NOTICE specifically. Please also remember that this Initiative is based on each of us becomming familiar with the constitution knowing that Congress takes an oath to comply with it. It’s all of our responsibility to know this.
Here is the link to the initiative and we recommend that you ALL take advantage of this before the 2010 elections.

Yes
Yes. There should be term limits.
Yes – for two reasons:
1) less likely to line their pockets with the riches from lobbyists.
2) can concentrate more on their jobs instead of worrying about reelection

We need millions of emails out the door prior to the 2010 elections. It’s time for 1 VOTE (ours) to mean something.

A RESOUNDING YES.
No one should be allowed to be in Congress more than 2 terms.
Beyond 2 terms definitely breeds corruption.
Just like the President has 2 terms, so should Congress.
Their so-called “term limits” are a joke. They should not be allowed to seek re-election after they’ve been in Congress for 2 terms.
