I got served by Amex card. on march5th.what do i do?

You should contact your local Consumer Credit Counseling service (a non-profit organization to assist individuals with these kinds of problems). They are non-profit, and can incorporate the small amount of fees into your repayment plan. This will only help for the creditors who -haven’t filed with the court, though. If you had contacted the credit card companies when you lost your job, before you were served, you might have been able to work out a settlement with them. However, now that you’ve been served, your only option with AMEX is to go to court. CCCS may be able to provide someone to help you figure out how to present your case, or may be able to help you arrange a settlement with AMEX, but it will have to be approved by a judge at this point. You’ll have an opportunity to present your case, but it is a lot messier this way.
If you have any other creditors that you’re behind on, contact the CCCS and get help. The CCCS will contact your other creditors -now- and let them know your situation.
You need to call them, explain that you are out of work and why but I can tell you now they wont wait 6-12months for you to get yourself sorted, they will want to see some sort of payments being made and now. You will have to agree to pay them something even if its only 5 dollars a week.
You really should have addressed this the day you got it as they could be in the process of serious legal action, if you keep in regular contact with them and be honest they will work with you to sort it out.
