Remember, China does not allow dual citizenship, so if your wife holds any other passport , she cannot also have Chinese citizenship and would be treated as any other foreigner.
Even if she still is still legally a Chinese national, you would still not have the right to work in China. You would have the right to stay as a visitor to your Chinese wife, but that’s all. Under Chinese immigration laws you have no right to work unless you find an employer who is authorized by the Foreign Expert’s Bureau to employ foreigners. Outside of teaching English, there are very few of these. Alternatively, you could try working for an American or European company operating in China. However, these tend to recruit in their home country and are nearly all short term contracts.
It is theoretically possible to obtain the Chinese equivalent of a green card which gives full rights. This would only be possible after five years in the country and only if your wife does have Chinese citizenship. Even then, in practice, it is very difficult to obtain these residence permits.
Finally, there are very few single family houses in China. Most people live in apartment blocks and the few family houses are at the very expensive end of the market – on a par with and beyond prices in the USA.
