Actually…that may not be such a bad idea. You could very well get a huge savings in interest rates…I would check how it would affect your credit rating though.
We should all stop paying them. If you paid on time and were not stupid enough to get into a zero down/interest only loan you should have known you couldn’t afford, you need relief also. I say everybody stop paying.

Bailout money doesn’t mean it’s free money. It’s a loan to tie you over until the economy gets healthier. If you need the money to pay your mortgage, fine… but you will pay it back later, unless you file bankruptcy.
Paulson is an idiot. Obama is right in listening to the experts who say the quickest way to help the economy is to get at the root of the problem; which are the high rate of foreclosures. Help struggling homeowners get through it … that is the solution.

They are not helping people who arent working you know……This is only for people who qualify for a home loan modification……I am as far to the right as they come and I voted McCain but the election is over and it is time for us to all be Americans again and do what we do better than everyone else in the world….

Since you “can still afford it”, you do not meet the definition of a “struggling homeowner”, so even if you stop paying your mortgage, you will not get any help.
So by all means, pick out a nice cardboard box for yourself and stop paying your mortgage. You’ll have all that extra cash to keep you warm at night.
