It’s all tied to Obama’s Stimulus package…….. The Democrats are taking full responsibility for Manny getting paid.
WASHINGTON—After a series of closed-door talks, Scott Boras, the agent known for representing the highest-paid players in baseball, set another record for the game’s largest contract when he finalized Manny Ramirez’s $20 billion agreement with the United States federal government on Thursday. “Manny’s .396 batting average last season with the Dodgers, as well as his playoff performance, proved that he is as important to this country as infrastructure projects, health care, and renewable energy development,” Boras said during an interview, adding that Ramirez is especially satisfied with the indefinite length of the contract. “He’s promised to cut 47 hours of antics this year and to make necessary attitude adjustments in order to remain solvent. Any criticism Manny receives for this contract is simply what comes with getting a huge amount of money from the government during a time of crisis.” A clause in the contract states Ramirez could receive an additional $6 billion if he successfully saves the American auto industry.
Yes. It was a coincidence. Manny overachieved last year- a contract year. His motivation was the $45 Million he just locked up so I’d expect his numbers in 2009 to look a lot more like ’07 than ’08. And I doubt his play, poor or impressive, will have much effect on American economic conditions. But we can hope can’t we
No, Manny is irrelevant. The Manny signing kind of became official towards the end of the day too. All this will do is help sell jerseys for some retailers in southern California. It’ll probably boost the Dodgers tickets sales too, but that’ll mostly pay for his salary. Not that it effects me being a Mets fan, but I wouldn’t be so quick to say the Dodgers are at the top of the NL West either. Never be too quick to make an assumption of what you’re team will do. See them play well again before judging. Although the Giants have good pitching, they probably won’t make it to .500 because of their line-up. The Padres won’t be good this year, especially if they trade Peavy later on. The Rockies just loss Francis too. But I think this NL West division is coming down to the Diamondbacks and Dodgers. Around 86-87 wins should do it.
While having Manny is nice, and signing Hudson is too (although ARZ got your first round draft pick), losing Lowe will kill you guy’s. Billingsley’s leg is also in question, Wolf’s only made 76 starts in the last 4 seasons and Kuroda just turned 34. So they’ll need to see some development in Kershaw. When it comes to the bullpen, you really don’t want to rely on Guillermo Mota. Losing Beimel won’t help. LA obviously have better hitting than ARZ, but you’re talking about Webb and Haren anchoring that staff. Outside of Sabathia and Burnett, who could say they have a better 1-2 punch? They combined for 38 wins last season, 443 innings and had a 3.30 and 3.33 ERA, respectively.
Of course. You, I, and Manny all know the world revolves around Manny. Without him, there is no life. Manny is God.
Manny rox the dodgers got lucky manny was gettin ready to say screw off i retiring

It’s the opposite. He’s putting millions in his pocket while the the rest of us jerks have to start buying Spam instead of Steaks.

And Obama’s popularity went up, too. Yeah.
It’s a conspiracy, I tell you.
