well, technically it’s your house when, and only when, the loan is paid off, but I wish you luck in paying it off. “Modifying” the loan means that the government is paying off a substantial portion of the amount you agreed to pay.
If you’re talking about refinancing, I agree with you, they should allow you to refinance at a lower fixed rate for the entire principal. If you’re still unable to make the payments, the bank has to take the loss and find someone else who will either pay cash for the house or be able to afford the payments.
Well I think at the moment, most MP’s are too busy trying to hang on to their own jobs and two flipped houses what with all the expenses scandal carrying on…
Why would you want to live in a place you can’t afford?
But, to answer your question, the gov’t isn’t pumping money into the economy in an attempt to help people get back on their feet, it’s pumping enormous quantities of money with the hopes that people and corporations will spend it so that they can collect taxes. The greater the number of times money changes hands, the greater the number of times the gov’t can dip their hand into the transaction.
The US government only cares about the wealthy elite who contribute to their campaigns. They try to make an example of a few of the wealthy that overstep their bounds, but in the end they just get a slap on the wrist. The government cares nothing for the working class as evidenced by the recent bailouts that had overwhelming support from both parties in Congress. They would rather help the wealthy keep their bonuses than be concerned with things they view as trivial like unemployment and the homeless.
He is too busy with being on TV & sending money to Pakistan $7 billion, to fix our own economy..
It is unfortunate, but our govt no longer represents the people and we are suffering. We need a complete change & term limits for the congress. Too many good old boys doing their own thing & a president that acts like money has no meaning except when it comes to the common people.
The Social Security people will get no standard of living raise this year. & we know that people are hurting all over on the lower levels.
They need to cut out ALL foreign aid until we get through this depression. They need to help the people that are losing homes and do something to generate about half a million minimum wage jobs so that people can get by until they can get a real job..
The federal government has addressed this issue with banks and offered programs to modify your home loan but many banks still refuse to do it. Better sell your house before it is foreclosed on and get an apartment until you are in a better financial condition.
The answer is a sad but true one, the government does not really care about its people. The lawmakers, presidents and people in control only want our tax dollars. They do not care that you are out of work. They care about the banks, period.
Banks are making up for their problems by manipulating people’s accounts. For instance, I get an automatic payment from my work sent to my bank on Wednesday morning of each week. Usually, it is on the bank’s computer by Thursday afternoon. This week, my bank didn’t acknowledge my money being there until this morning, Saturday. In the meantime, I paid several utility bills yesterday, as I was yet unaware of the situation.
Today in reviewing my account online, I see that the bank manipulated by restacking my debits to their liking. The bank keeps items pending for about four days, as a way of helping them manipulate. They cleared all larger items, no matter what the date, as being the first paid out of my account. That means that my utilities were paid with the balance I had remaining from my last pay. No problem, right? BUT BUT BUT that gave the bank nine little items from last week to charge a overcharge fee, as opposed to it should have been two overcharge fees. They keep them pending, I believe, in hopes that they can manipulate when your paycheck goes in, and dredge up bogus late charges and overdraft fees.
When I complained and showed proof of what they had done, I was told to simply get a no-bounce account. Sure… more money for them… a no-bounce account so that I can pay out even more every time they fail to acknowledge that they already have my paycheck.
So… the sad answer is that banks are in bad trouble, and the government will not slap their hands for wrongdoing, but they will allow the banks to slap yours or mine.
These people asking why you want to live in a home that you can’t afford sound like they think you asked to lose your job. Our government and economy are a house of cards.
You should move to a place you can afford then. Or you could get a job. I’m 19. I work 3 jobs. Do I want to? No. But do I have to in order to have my house, my car, my phone? Yes.
The government can’t keep giving handouts to everybody. Get up and get a job. And plenty of places are hiring, you just need to know where to look. My brother just got a job straight out of being in jail for 8 months and he makes well above minimum-wage. If he can, then I’m sure you can.
You’re not a victim, stop acting like it. Or maybe it’s your lack of education since it’s “they’re” not “there.”

Hey man, if it was up to me there wouldn’t even be unemployment. There shouldn’t be any government services.
